The Rockstar union vote now has dates, and they land on top of the biggest week in the studio’s history. According to the IWGB union, Rockstar employees will vote on union recognition from November 12 to November 26, 2026. The window opens on the day GTA 6 preloading is scheduled to begin and closes a week after the game’s November 19 launch.
Aftermath, PC Gamer and Game Developer all reported the ballot on October 27. Rockstar had not commented on the vote itself at that point, and nothing in the coverage links it to the release date. Here is what is confirmed, what Rockstar has said and what nobody has disclosed yet.
- Vote window: November 12–26, 2026, per the IWGB (via Aftermath and PC Gamer).
- Union: the IWGB’s Rockstar Game Workers Union.
- Terms: negotiated with management since July.
- Rockstar’s response to the ballot: no comment reported as of October 27.
- GTA 6 release: November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, unchanged.
What Is the Rockstar Union Vote?
The ballot asks Rockstar staff whether the company should formally recognise the Rockstar Game Workers Union. According to PC Gamer and the Institute of Employment Rights (IER), recognition would give the union a voice on pay and bonuses, overtime, redundancies, flexible working and generative AI policy. Those are the topics covered by terms negotiated since July.
That timeline fits what we reported in July, when the union held its first meeting with Rockstar management after submitting a recognition request.
How Big Would It Be?
If the vote passes, PC Gamer reports it would become the biggest games-industry union in the UK. Destructoid adds some scale: the IWGB Game Workers Union has more than 2,000 members across over 80 studios, while Activision’s Quality Assurance United-CWA covers about 600 QA workers and ZeniMax Workers United about 300.
Who Can Vote?
That is not yet clear. Bloomberg reported that Rockstar had 4,711 employees across 12 offices as of August, but none of the vote coverage says how many people are in the ballot. Reports also differ on scope: the IER describes the vote as covering Rockstar North in Edinburgh, while other reports simply refer to Rockstar workers without naming offices.
What Rockstar Has Said About a Union
The closest thing to a company position comes from Jennifer Kolbe, Rockstar’s head of publishing. PC Gamer, UNILAD and the IER all quote her from Bloomberg’s feature on the making of GTA 6:
“We go where the team goes. So if they want a union, they will have a union.” Jennifer Kolbe, Rockstar head of publishing, as quoted by PC Gamer from Bloomberg
Aftermath notes the comment came earlier in October. It is a statement of openness, not a confirmation of the specific terms on the ballot, and Rockstar has not publicly addressed those.
Union voices are more pointed. Committee member Shanti Easton-Steel said, “This November, we have the chance to make gaming history not once but twice.” IWGB president Alex Marshall called the vote “just as historic as the game release,” according to the IER.
Key Dates Around the Rockstar Union Vote
- November 9: Take-Two reports earnings, with a call at 4:30 p.m. ET, according to GameSpot citing Take-Two’s investor relations announcement.
- November 12: the ballot opens. This is also the scheduled GTA 6 preload date.
- November 17–18: closing submissions in the Glasgow employment tribunal, per Game Developer, the IER and UNILAD.
- November 19: GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- November 26: the ballot closes.
How the Vote Connects to the Rockstar Tribunal Case
The ballot and the tribunal are separate processes, but they involve the same union and the same weeks. In late October 2025, Rockstar dismissed 34 workers, 31 of them union members and three not, according to Game Developer. Aftermath and PC Gamer cite the 31 union members. Rockstar says the dismissals were for gross misconduct and followed leaks of confidential information in a Discord server. The IWGB calls them union busting, and PC Gamer quotes it describing the firings as “the most brazen act of union busting the games industry has ever seen.”
A preliminary ruling in June let the workers’ blacklisting claims go to a full hearing, Game Developer reported. That hearing began in Glasgow on September 10, and we covered the testimony from Rockstar’s HR director earlier this month. No decision has been reported.
One discrepancy to flag: Destructoid says a ruling is expected on November 19, but the other outlets we checked only cite the November 17–18 closing submissions. We treat the ruling date as unannounced.
What Is Still Unknown
- Eligibility: how many staff are in the ballot, and which offices.
- The threshold: what share of votes recognition needs, and who runs the ballot. Reports do not say whether this is a voluntary agreement or a statutory process.
- The result: Destructoid expects results by November 26, but no announcement plan has been published.
- Rockstar’s formal response: the company has not commented on the vote.
Does the Rockstar Union Vote Affect GTA 6’s Release?
No outlet we reviewed links the ballot or the tribunal to the release schedule. PC Gamer, Aftermath and Game Developer all report November 19 as the launch date. The overlap is a matter of timing and attention, which the union itself is highlighting, not a reported risk to the game.
You can follow the clock on our GTA 6 countdown timer, compare editions in the pre-order section and see the full confirmed list in our GTA 6 release date guide. New reports land in our Rockstar news section.
Why It Matters Beyond the Launch
Overtime is one of the listed topics, and it echoes Bloomberg’s reporting. VGTimes’ summary says Rockstar revised its scheduling and overtime pay after Red Dead Redemption 2, and that Kolbe does not claim crunch has been eliminated.
For a sense of scale, Edge describes Rockstar North as a studio of about 900 people in our look at the Edge cover story. No report says that is the size of the ballot, so treat it as background only.
The Bottom Line on the Rockstar Union Vote
The Rockstar union vote is the most concrete labour development around GTA 6 since the firings, and it now has a fixed window. Three dates are worth marking: November 12 when the ballot opens, November 17–18 for the tribunal’s closing arguments, and November 26 when voting ends. We will update this report if Rockstar or the IWGB publish eligibility or result details.
