The GTA 6 PC release may be closer than fans expected, but it is not official. On October 13, GamesBeat reported that Rockstar plans to launch the PC version in the first quarter of 2027, citing four anonymous industry sources. Rockstar has not announced a PC version at all. With 36 days left on our GTA 6 countdown timer, here is what the report says, what is actually confirmed and what it would mean.
What the GTA 6 PC Release Report Actually Says
GamesBeat’s story is short on specifics. It names a window, Q1 2027, which runs from January through March. It gives no exact date, no price and no feature list for the PC version. It also says the PC build has to meet the same quality bar as the console release before it ships.
The outlet says four people who asked not to be named described the plan. Kotaku, TechRadar and Wccftech all relayed the report on the same day, and none of them added independent confirmation. TechRadar advises treating it with a grain of salt. That is fair advice.
What GamesBeat says is behind the timing
- A bigger audience: the report describes PC as a significant expansion of GTA 6’s potential player base.
- Online and community content: it points to Rockstar’s signalled plans for user-generated content tools and to its 2023 acquisition of Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM, which runs on PC.
- Online timing: it cites Twitch CEO Dan Clancy saying online play would come “next year.” Rockstar has announced no date for online, and our GTA 6 multiplayer release date report covers where that claim stands.
These are the outlet’s reasons, not statements from Rockstar. One more caution: a single paragraph in the GamesBeat piece refers to a “November 2027” console launch, while the rest of the article gives November 19. We read that as a slip, but it is a reminder to check the original.
What Is Confirmed About GTA 6 on PC
Very little, and it is worth being exact. Rockstar’s announced platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a launch of November 19, 2026. No Windows version has been announced, dated or priced.
Take-Two’s most direct comments on the subject point toward consoles first. In a Bloomberg interview published in early May, CEO Strauss Zelnick said Rockstar “always starts on console” because a release like this is judged on how well it serves its core audience. He also rejected the idea of a timed console exclusivity tied to a marketing deal, saying that Rockstar has historically gone to console first. He did not announce or rule out a PC version, and he gave no timing.
That context matters because it fits the report without proving it. A PC release a few months after consoles would still be console-first.
How Q1 2027 Compares With Rockstar’s Past PC Launches
If the report is right, the gap would be unusually short for Rockstar. According to GamesBeat, Grand Theft Auto V reached PC in April 2015, about 19 months after its September 2013 console launch. A Q1 2027 window would put GTA 6 on PC roughly two to four months after November 19.
- Console launch (confirmed): November 19, 2026, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Console preload (confirmed): see our GTA 6 preload date report.
- PC (reported): Q1 2027, no date, price or specs.
- Online play (unconfirmed): no official date from Rockstar.
Cloud Streaming Is a Separate Question
PC players have another possible route that is easy to mix up with a native release. The Verge reported on October 6 that Xbox Cloud Gaming has exclusive launch streaming rights, which would let some people play on a PC through the cloud rather than a Windows build. That report is also unconfirmed, and it is a different thing from a native PC version. Our Xbox Cloud Gaming deal explainer covers the details, and a native Windows launch would not depend on it.
What the GTA 6 PC Release Would Mean for Players
If Rockstar does confirm a Q1 2027 launch, several practical questions follow. None of them has an answer yet.
- System requirements: unannounced.
- Storefront and launcher: unannounced.
- Price and editions: the $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate prices are for the console pre-orders. See our GTA 6 pre-order guide. Nothing has been said about PC pricing.
- Mods: Rockstar has published modding rules, but they do not announce a PC version. Our GTA 6 modding rules article explains what they cover.
For now, anyone planning around a PC version is planning around a report. The only launch that is confirmed is on consoles.
What to Watch Next
The clean answer will come from Rockstar. Its Newswire is where official platform announcements appear, and our Rockstar news section tracks each post as it lands. Take-Two’s next earnings call is another place for questions about platforms. We will update this article if Rockstar or Take-Two confirms, denies or dates a PC version.
The Bottom Line on the GTA 6 PC Release
The GTA 6 PC release is now a credible, sourced rumor rather than a plan: GamesBeat says Q1 2027, four anonymous sources back it, and Rockstar has said nothing. What is confirmed is the November 19, 2026 console launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our GTA 6 release date guide stays current as the picture changes.
