Banner showing the GTA 6 preload moving up to November 10, a 212GB storage requirement and a calendar strip counting down to the November 19 launch

The GTA 6 preload now starts on November 10, two days earlier than the date Rockstar gave in July. The company also published the final storage figure: up to 212GB, depending on your console. Both details came in a Rockstar Newswire post on November 3, 2026, six days before the new preload window opens.

For digital pre-order buyers, that means a nine-day window to install a very large game before it unlocks on November 19. Here is exactly what changed, when your console can start downloading and what is still unanswered.

Quick facts

What Rockstar Changed About the GTA 6 Preload

Rockstar’s July announcement said digital pre-order customers could start pre-loading on November 12, with boxed copies arriving the same day. Beebom reports the new Newswire post says preloads “will now begin two days early.” Dexerto, KeenGamer and Pure Xbox all dated their coverage November 3 and cite the same post.

This replaces the schedule in our earlier preload date report, which we have updated. November 12 still matters, but only for one group of buyers, covered below.

GTA 6 Preload Times for PS5 and Xbox

The two platforms do not open on the same clock, and the difference is large for North American players.

PS5: Midnight in Your Own Time Zone

PS5 preloads begin at 12 a.m. local time on November 10. According to KeenGamer, that rolls across time zones rather than happening at one global moment. Push Square noted earlier that digital pre-orders should start downloading automatically once the preload is live, though that article predates the final announcement.

Xbox: One Global Moment

Xbox Series X|S preloading opens at 12 a.m. GMT, the same instant everywhere. Pure Xbox and KeenGamer list the local equivalents:

One quirk: Take-Two’s earnings call is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET on November 9, according to GameSpot citing the company’s investor relations notice. An Eastern-time Xbox player could be installing GTA 6 within hours of it.

How Big Is the GTA 6 Download?

Rockstar’s maximum is 212GB, and Pure Xbox reports the company says the figure may vary by device. KeenGamer quotes the Newswire advice directly: “Make sure you’ve got ample space to begin pre-loading as soon as possible.”

That is slightly above the roughly 210GB figure that circulated on October 27. Push Square, which covered it the next day, attributed it to the PlayStation Game Size account on X and said it was unconfirmed. Rockstar has now put an official number on it.

Vice reports the PlayStation Blog tells players to clear at least 212GB. As Vice notes, that is a storage requirement, not a separate measurement of the compressed download. None of the coverage we reviewed says whether a day-one update will add to it, so treat 212GB as the figure to plan around and nothing more.

Who Gets to Preload on November 10?

Only digital pre-orders. KeenGamer reports boxed code-in-the-box copies reach retailers on November 12, which puts those buyers two days behind. Beebom adds that they can preload once their copy arrives. The box contains a download code rather than a disc, so delivery timing sets the start of your preload.

Preloading does not grant early access. Vice, citing the PlayStation Blog, says players must still wait for the game to unlock in their region. Our pre-order guide explains the editions if you are still deciding how to buy, and the pre-order section on our homepage lists current options.

The Launch Is Still Midnight Local Time

Vice reports Rockstar confirmed on X that the game “will release at midnight local time in each region.” That keeps the rolling launch we covered in our worldwide release times report: New Zealand reaches November 19 first and the Americas last. The preload change does not alter that order. You can follow the clock on our GTA 6 countdown timer.

The Free Map Detail

The same announcement covered the map of Leonida. Dexerto reports it is a free download, with a physical version available from the Rockstar store for $0.99 or included free with any purchase, shortly after launch. Pure Xbox describes the free item as a poster of the artwork and map, so the wording differs between outlets. We will update once Rockstar’s own post is easier to quote.

Why the GTA 6 Preload Change Matters

At 212GB, this is a very large download, and an extra two days gives slower connections more room to finish before launch. Rockstar has not said why the date moved, so we are not guessing at a reason.

It does create two groups. A digital buyer can be playing-ready on November 10 while a boxed-copy buyer cannot start until the code arrives on or after November 12. Neither gets to play early, but only one has a head start on storage and downloads.

What Is Still Unconfirmed

The Bottom Line on the GTA 6 Preload

The GTA 6 preload opens November 10, the download is up to 212GB and the game still unlocks at midnight local time on November 19. Clear your storage this week, check which store your pre-order is on and decide whether a boxed copy’s later code is worth the wait. For the latest, our Rockstar news section will carry any changes, and our release date guide holds the full confirmed list.
